Nonpartisan Standards

These are the rules Guide the Vote holds itself to. They are public because they should be — and because you should be able to hold us to them.

Our standards

  1. 1.No candidate endorsements

    Guide the Vote does not endorse, oppose, or rank candidates. We do not tell you who to vote for.

  2. 2.No party endorsements

    We do not endorse, oppose, or rank political parties.

  3. 3.Equal candidate treatment

    Every candidate for the same office receives the same profile structure, the same fields, the same word count guidance, and the same review process.

  4. 4.Consistent profile structure

    Profiles are alphabetical by last name. Sections appear in the same order for every candidate.

  5. 5.Source transparency

    Every ballot fact is sourced. Sources are ranked publicly on our Sources page and enforced in our editorial tools.

  6. 6.Candidate-provided information is labeled

    When information comes from a candidate's own campaign, it is labeled as such. We do not present campaign claims as independently verified facts.

  7. 7.Corrections policy

    Corrections are logged publicly on our Corrections page with the date and the page affected. A correction never auto-replaces published information — it triggers a source review.

  8. 8.Conflict-of-interest policy

    Editors and reviewers disclose relationships with candidates, campaigns, parties, or advocacy organizations. Disclosures appear on the affected pages.

  9. 9.Sponsorship independence

    Sponsors and partners do not review, approve, or influence our educational content. Sponsors do not receive advance access to our coverage.

  10. 10.Content review process

    Every published page carries a Last verified date and a review status. Editorial changes go through a second reviewer before publication.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not publish race ratings.
  • We do not publish election forecasts or predictions.
  • We do not publish comparative campaign finance figures. We teach the lookup instead.
  • We do not label any map as a gerrymander. That is a contested claim, not a neutral measurement.
  • We do not endorse candidates, parties, or ballot positions.
  • We do not run a candidate-matching quiz.
